Beowulf’s adventures taught us many things and taught him many things too. The Grendel chapter even though it did not introduce Beowulf still taught people valuable lessons. Like for example when the Vikings party their butts off, they angered Grendel. Thus is why Grendel “Smash them [the Herots]… and ran out with their bodies” (Grendel 37-38). This value shows that we should be careful of what we do because we do not know what is going to happen. It could make is as we can make a person angry, like the Herots made Grendel angry.
In the Beowulf chapter where Beowulf has been introduced. His pride shows how much he is known by the people. So he goes to Hrothgar to fight Grendel and when he heads there the kings knows him by name and by his father who was a king. It is because of his characteristics and his father that makes him so well known. These traits or family relations is sort of how people can be well known. If you have a trait that what the people/peers like or have a family member that is well known then you can get well known easily, but the opposite can happen if you do not have those types of traits. We must learn that we must be open to other people and not care about the traits or family heritage that’s make a person well known as long as if that person is a good person he/she should be treated the same.
During the battles with Grendel then later his mother. Beowulf shows off in the most pointless ways. “my hands alone shall fight for me” (Boewulf 173-174). This happened before Beowulf fought Grendel. Beowulf shows how he is over confident about himself. He shows how he thinks about himself as much greater than he is. This is a good thing as he providing himself with a positive image for himself, thinking how he is great. We can see that we should be able to think more positively about ourselves. But also this example can show how Narcissistic Beowulf can be which can show us how not to think about ourselves. Beowulf does this again when fighting Grendel’s mom as he tries to show more pride and honor when he tries to go ahead and fight Grendel’s mom first.
In his last battle Beowulf fights a dragon. His old age makes it hard. But we can see that he has courage and pride to fight this monster. It teaches us that the morals that we should be brave, show courage and sacrifice for the people cared. As Beowulf was willing to defend his people from the dragon while knowing it going to be his last. This example shows the Bravery of Beowulf. All these examples can show us that Beowulf is a story shows us many things that we can learn.
